Modelling phylogenetic diversity

چکیده

The paper proposes a model for measuring and valuing biodiversity based on evolutionary information, called the phylogenetic tree model. While avoiding the strong restrictions of Weitzman’s [Quart. J. Econ. 107 (1992) 363] “cladistic” approach, the phylogenetic tree model retains much of the mathematical simplicity of the cladistic model. In particular, in the phylogenetic tree model the diversity of any set of species can be recursively determined from the pairwise dissimilarities between them. The restrictions imposed by the phylogenetic tree model on the underlying dissimilarity metric are characterized and shown to be weaker than those entailed by the cladistic model. An especially parsimonous version of the phylogenetic tree model is obtained by invoking an appropriate notion of translation invariance. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Mitochondrial Diversity and Phylogenetic Structure of Marghoz Goat Population

The genetic diversity and phylogenetic structure was analyzed in Marghoz goat population by mitochondrial DNA sequences. Phylogenetic analysis was carried out using hyper variable region 1 (968 bp) obtained form 40 animals. Marghoz goat proved to be extremely diverse (average haplotype diversity of 0.999) and the nucleotide diversity values 0.022. A total of 40 Marghoz goats were grouped into s...

Phylogenetic beta diversity: linking ecological and evolutionary processes across space in time.

A key challenge in ecological research is to integrate data from different scales to evaluate the ecological and evolutionary mechanisms that influence current patterns of biological diversity. We build on recent attempts to incorporate phylogenetic information into traditional diversity analyses and on existing research on beta diversity and phylogenetic community ecology. Phylogenetic beta di...

Opposing phylogenetic diversity gradients of plant and soil bacterial communities.

Plants and soil microbes show parallel patterns of species-level diversity. Diverse plant communities release a wider range of organics that are consumed by more microbial species. We speculated, however, that diversity metrics accounting for the evolutionary distance across community members would reveal opposing patterns between plant and soil bacterial phylogenetic diversity. Plant phylogene...

Analysis of genetic diversity, phylogenetic relationships and population structure of Arasbaran cornelian cherry (Cornus mas L.) genotypes using ISSR molecular markers

Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas L.), considered as the ancestor of cultivated trees in Arasbaran region, is a medicinally and economically plant species. However, little is known about genetic diversity, breeding programs, and population structure of this species in mentioned region. Keeping this in view, the main objectives of present study were to analysis the genetic diversity, phyloge...

Phylogenetic diversity and cross-inoculation of indigenous isolated Bradyrhizobium from nodules of peanut in Liaoning province of China

Arachis hypogaea. L is a legume of economic importance, which is nodulated by Bradyrhizobium, a slow-growing bacteria. However there is no well characterization of this rhizobia in many areas of China. In the present study, cross-inoculation experiments were performed in cowpea and soybean. The isolated bacteria strains were characterized physiologyically, biochemically and id...
